Shawn represents the management interests of companies and public entities in all areas of labor and employment law. Shawn works directly with management and insurance companies to provide client counseling and litigation defense on a broad range of labor and employment law topics.

Shawn’s experience includes all facets of employment discrimination, wrongful termination, public employee dismissals, unfair labor practice, executive compensation, employment contracts, employee handbooks, employer policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, severance agreements, data security, regulatory compliance, and other labor and employment related matters. Shawn also defends clients against claims brought under Federal and State law, as well as before arbitrators and administrative agencies.

Prior to joining McMahon Berger, Shawn spent a decade representing the interests of public school districts and was recognized as one of the leading education law attorneys in Illinois. Shawn regularly advised boards of education and administrators on matters such as employee and union grievances, policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, employee dismissals, student discipline, the Open Meetings Act, Freedom of Information Act requests, special education law, civil rights compliance and litigation, and the intersection of technology and the law. He also devoted much of his practice to the defense of school districts in litigation including claims involving personal injury, wrongful death, civil rights, discrimination, retaliation, and breach of contract.

Shawn is a frequently requested speaker and author on the topics of employee termination, public employee dismissals, background checks, handbooks and policies, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, harassment and discrimination claims, Title IX compliance and investigations, and general regulatory compliance.
